Having owned a cheaper Fender electro-acoustic, I decided to fork out for a “decent quality” acoustic. After playing my Fender, the Yamaha plays ten times better. The neck is fast, feels like my electric, and the action is nice and low enabling fast fingerwork up the fretboard. The guitar is very comfortable to play and not too heavy (or light).

Unplugged, the sound isn’t as full as my last guitar, but that’s just a dimension thing, The APX is a thinline body, The Fender was a full body dreadnought design, which I found uncomfy to play. When strumming the guitar the chords are really sharp and crisp and it’s very forgiving, i.e not so many buzzing strings if you don’t form the chord perfectly. Plugged in the sound is way better than my last guitar. On the APX there’s a piezo pickup and an internally mounted condenser mic. The mic can be switched off and phase switched for different tones. Its got 3 band EQ with parametric adjustment. The thing is, I don’t think I’m getting the best out of it as my amp is an old piece of crap!

I played a few other guitars when looking, from a similar price bracket i.e Takamine, Ovation etc., and couldn’t honestly find a lot of difference in quality or sound. I bought mine in Dusk sun red and think the finish is excellent and really sold the guitar for me. Try one.
