When I picked up this guitar at the guitar store, I knew right away that I had found something special. Despite its moderate price, it played and sounded as well as other brands that cost double the price. When I first got it home, it sounded a bit stiff (Spruce top) but after playing it for a few days, the sound became noticeably more mellow.

Sound Quality
The sound was fantastic for a guitar in that price range. I wouldn’t really recommend it for finger picking, but with flat picking, the sound was huge and vibrant.

Here’s where the trouble begins. After three weeks, almost overnight, it developed a large crack in the top. It was kept in a temperature and humidity controlled environment, and had never left my house. I took it back to my dealer on January 16th where it was sent back to the factory. It is now March 12th, and I still do not have it back. I’ve emailed Larrivee six or seven times. On February 16th, I was told that it would be repaired three weeks from January 30th. After several emails that were never replied to, I got a response from them on March 10th stating that the guitar was scheduled to be repaired two weeks from March 7th. Imagine how upset you would be if you purchased a new guitar, had it for three weeks, and then was without it for 12 weeks! The Larrivee company has not offered any sort of explanation, apology or suggestions to rectify the situation. In fact, they’ve been ambivalent about the entire issue.
As a small business owner, I can say without doubt, that if I provided service comparable to that of Larrivee’s, I would be out of business in no time. The product was fabulous when I had it, but my feelings for the Larrivee company will be forever soured by the rotten service and lack of care or concern that was given to me. Unfortunately, this seems to be a typical example of a company who is more concerned about churning out product then it is about taking care of its existing customers. If I ever do get the guitar back, I will probably sell it right away and buy a new one from a more reputable company. Maybe this type of service is acceptable in Canada, but it’s not the the United States. If any of you ever have to send your instrument in for repair, then I wish you the best of luck. My opinion is that Larrivee’s service stinks!
