  6. I love the feel of the neck and the frets etc., perfect for me. I have 2 hand-made Laskin Rosewood guitars ('78 / 6 string and '76 / 12 string ) so I was looking for a 6 string for my studio and for live with a different sound than Rosewood. Long McQuade Music had custom ordered 48 only D-03 Koa guitars and sent a sale flyer out. I was in the store the 2nd day they arrived and this guitar just jumped off the wall into my car. I only played it in the store for about 6-8 minutes, it was THAT incredible. It is stellar all the way around and very easy to play in all styles. The action was a little higher than my Laskin but I decided to leave it that way. It stays in tune for days. Mine has Ebony tuners, very nice look. I had priced getting a custom made Koa guitar from several Canadian guitar luthiers and they were all in the $4-5k range.

  9. The tone is superb with the Koa, clear, warm and punchy, did I say loud yet? The tone is a cross between a Cedar top and a Spruce top, with the best qualities of both. It records very well, extremely well balanced, equal to the best and /or most expensive guitars I’ve ever played. I put a Fishman Matrix pick-up in it for playing live and recording through a Yamaha UD Stomp and it sounds very good out front.

  12. Impeccable, no flaws, no glue, perfection! Feels very solid and I really like the satin finish. I would have bought a cutaway Koa if it had been available (it wasn’t) but otherwise I’m very pleased. Hard to believe a guitar like this can cost so little. When I went shopping I had $2500 (Cdn) in mind. I came home with $1100 change & a great second 6 string guitar. If I had to take one guitar with me to that desert island it would be my Larrivee D-03K without a doubt.
