Performance
The La Patrie Etude classical guitar is a handcrafted instrument made in Quebec, Canada. Neck width and fret and string spacing conform to classical standards, however, an adjustable truss rod in the neck adds strength and allows the profile of the neck to be reduced. This feature produces superior playability with a comfortable and stabile feel. The action, right out of the box, was low for a classical guitar. Since the strings are low to the fretboard, it has an easy-to-play feel. The action was not too low, however, to cause fret buzz on any string on any fret.

Sound Quality
The two things I looked for in the decision to buy this guitar are both related to its sound. Firstly, I liked its tone. The high notes have a clear bell-like tone, while the bass notes have a clear, deep resonance. All notes have exceptional sustain. Secondly, this guitar has a great deal of volume. This guitar had no built in electronics, though they are available. I prefer a pure acoustic sound and this guitar is loud enough, under normal playing conditions, that I don’t need sound amplification.

The craftsmanship of this La Patrie Etude is exceptional, considering the very affordable price. This classical guitar combines a solid Cedar top with laminated Mahogany back and sides. The neck is Honduras Mahogany and the fretboard and bridge are Indian Rosewood. It has an alcohol lacquer satin finish. This makes the guitar more susceptible to dings and scratches, however, I treat this guitar very gently, so this is not a problem. On the positive side, this light lacquer finish seems to allow the wood, especially the soundboard, to breathe and vibrate freely, producing a warm and clear sound. The tuning machines all function well with no apparent string slippage. New strings, once stretched out properly, hold there tunings well with only minor adjustment required. This classical has given me exceptional value for money. If anything happened to this guitar, I would immediately buy another La Patrie Etude to replace it.
