Fender Cyclone

Fender Cyclone

  2. Price Paid: $375

  3. Performance

  4. The Cyclone gives you a ton of options for a MIM “student” guitar. One Strat single coil, on “Atomic” humbucker, and a vintage Strat tremolo. Very cool appointments. I bought this guitar from a store and had to have it professionally set up when I got it home, so, initially, there were some tuning problems. But, after the set up, none. The neck is straight and beefy (thicker than a Tele neck, which I’m used to playing), the look is cool (go for the vintage white - too cool), and the sound is fun. A great little guitar to experiment with.

  6. Sound Quality

  7. Like I said, one Strat single coil and an “Atomic” humbucker. The single coil is great for surf stuff; very mellow and even. The humbucker is a big, loud, middy, sounding pick up. At first, I didn’t care for it, but it’s grown on me for some stuff now. It really fills some gaps when you want it to. Overall, the sound range on the Cyclone has amazed me. You can pretty much dial in anything you want, except for Tele tones. This things got a nice low end.

  9. Construction

  10. Besides needing a good set up, the Cyclone is solid. I’ve dropped it, banged it against mic stands and amps, and cranked on the trem bar so hard at times that I thought the metal would bend, but the Cyclone can handle it. Again, pretty impressive for a “student” model. I’ve had no problems with any of the hardware on this thing.

  11. Construction Rating: 8
