The Telecaster (under the name Broadcaster) was the first commercial solid-body electric guitar. It is simplicity, itself. It has two single coil pickups, a tone switch and a three-way selector switch. It is simply a solid piece of wood with a neck bolted on. When you understand all of that, and realize how little it has changed since its inception, you understand the Mr. Fender did a marvelous piece of work.

Sound Quality
The Telecaster is, in my opinion, somewhat of a specialist guitar. It remains the most popular Country and Western lead guitar, and has a certain following among Rock guitarists (among them Kieth Richards and Bruce Springsteen) as well, where they want a growling, biting sound. I would not recommend it for a general purpose guitar for someone who wanted to play a little of everything, but if it falls into your genre, it's a sound you can't get anywhere else. For the sounds that it has evolved to, it is the best there is.

The Telecaster is build like a brick house. Still, that doesn't mean it has anything about it that feels thrown together. Plays easy. Harder to overdrive than my Les Paul, but that is to be expected. It is easier to bend strings than the LP. No complaints about this guitar, whatsoever.
