Perhaps the most versatile solid-body electric guitar on the market, and I can see why it is so billed. It has three single coil pickups, a volume knob, two tone knobs and a five-way selector switch. Originally designed to replace the Telecaster, they have each evolved into their own niche. The Strat can play country, blues, rock or whatever, rhythm or lead. If a anyone asked me today what one guitar they should buy, the Strat would be my recommendation.

The Strat has a built in growl, which is a part of the Strat sound. It's supposed to be that way, although you can make it pretty smooth, as well (just not as much as a Les Paul). Mine has excellent sound. really wasn't intending to buy it at the time I did, but it had such a good sound I couldn't pass it up, as I was afraid I might not get so lucky again (that thinking drives my wife crazy.)

The Strats are pretty simply built and hold up well. However, my particular one has a loose strap hook (which I need to get fixed before disaster strikes). That was disappointing, but I won't give it up because I like the sound.
