  4. The guitar arrived in perfect setup condition. I was the first to talk down the mail order guitar thing, but after reading so many favorable reviews, and not having a ton of money to dish out at the time, I placed my order. The intonation and action remains perfect. The neck is a dream. I'd give it a 10, but at high gain settings there is a pesky 60 cycle buzz in the single coil modes.

  7. The thing produces the widest range of tones I've ever experienced! I had a coil splitter switch installed for the humbucker and a phase. The punch and definition that this thing brings is unreal. The string definition, even at super high saturation settings is great. There is a wah quality to the broad sweep with the tone pot. I've played with Strat folks before and the Strat quack that I get from the neck pick up has that classic crying tone but with a more rounded texture. Why bother buying a compressor pedal with this unit.

  10. Solid, tight well fit workmanship. All of the Guitar Player mags quality checks are passed here. The finish is perfect. I had their cherry sunburst with the rounded edges and painted headstock. Flawless! The fret work is totally even up and down the neck. The thing really stays in tune. I had a bit of trouble playing at a gig in a garage pointing out to the crowd on a rainy night once, but aside from that I pick it up and it's there. The switches and pots are tight and heavy gauged even though they a have a very delicate and exact feel to them. The whammy is silky smooth and doesn't throw the thing out even when I really lean on it (which I can't help but do) I wish Carvin had a better retail presence, but that's why they get away with selling an ax that should cost 2X what they sell them for. Take the chance. Don't settle for them cookie cutter variety that everyone else is buying.
