Electric Guitar Questions & Answers
Question
I'm out in the boonies with no music stores nearby. I'm looking to get an electric guitar. What do you consider the most versatile pickup array for producing diverse sound and tonal varieties: H,S,H or H,S,S or S,S,S? [H = Humbucker pickups. S = Single Coil pickups.] - Jon
Answer
I would say the H, S, S with the Humbucker in the bridge position will be the most versatile. Although a lot depends on what type of music you like to play. Humbuckers produce a darker, thicker tone with more sustain — good for hard rock, leads, etc. Single coils are very bright and give you a "quacky" Fender tone good for rhythm and clean tones. So a combination of both can be more versatile.
