Acoustic Guitar Questions & Answers
Question
I played some classical guitar in the distant past. Do you think one could play fingerstyle and with a pick on a guitar like the Seagull "Folk" acoustic. The fretboard is 1.8 wide. Would this width be a handicap when playing with a pick? - Vern
Answer
Classical guitars have nylon strings. They can be played with a pick, but they are not designed for it and the tone is not great with a pick. I believe the Seagul "Folk" guitar has steel strings. It just has a wider neck like a classical guitar. These type of guitars are called "fingerstyle" acoustics. A wider neck width helps when fingerpicking (especially if you have large fingers!), but it really doesn't matter that much when picking. You will get used to the extra width quickly.
